Current Grant Opportunities and Resources

State Farm Insurance

The following types of grants for K-12 Public Schools will be considered by the State Farm Foundation:

  • Support for academic achievement initiatives

    --Funding for regional, state, and local organizations that promote and support education reform initiatives that do not engage in lobbying as their primary activity

    --Funding for public K-12 school programs and curriculum changes that improve student achievement

  • After-school programs that focus on increasing students' academic achievement in math, science, reading, and English as a second language

  • Teacher excellence programs that improve teacher quality

Deadline: Proposals are accepted throughout the year. Requests for more than $100,000 are considered quarterly.Under $100,000. if over this amount, then request will be considered quarterly

Hewlett Packard Technology for
Teaching Grant Initiative

This grant initiative is designed to support the innovative use of technology in K-16 education, and to help identify K-12 schools and higher education institutions that HP might support with future grants.

Eligibility: HP will select teams of five teachers from at least 150 schools to receive the equipment, professional development and support they need to effectively integrate technology into their instruction. Preference will be given to low-income schools, relative to district or state free and reduced price lunch percentages and to projects that include integration of mathematics and/or science curriculum

Grant award: The 2004 HP K-12 Technology for Teaching Grant award includes several elements. Each of the five teachers on the school's project team will receive:

  • an HP Tablet PC
  • an HP multimedia projector
  • HP Help Desk technical support for one year
  • a $500 stipend
  • customized professional development opportunities to support the use of technology in their teaching

National Education Association (NEA) Foundation for the Improvement of Education (NFIE)

Purpose of Grants: The NEA Foundation (NFIE) provides grants to teachers, education support professionals, and higher education faculty and staff in public schools, colleges, and universities for the purpose of engaging in high-quality professional development or implementing innovative ideas that raise student achievement.

Amount of Grants: The NFIE makes 2 types of grants:

  • Learning and Leadership: ($2000--$5000) Grants to individuals will fund the recipients to participate in high-quality professional development experiences, such as summer institutes or action research. Grants to groups will fund collegial study, including study groups, action research, lesson study, or mentoring experiences for faculty or staff new to an assignment.

  • Innovation Grants: (up to $5000) Grants will support collaborative efforts by two or more colleagues to develop and implement creative and unique ideas that result in high student achievement.
    Proposed projects can focus on use of technology in the classroom.
