If you're new to the Internet, you might want to experience some of this "surfing" you've been hearing about. The basic idea in surfing is to follow the wave of your interest. One good World Wide Web site to "catch a wave," is Yahoo (Yet Another Hierarchically Organized Oracle). This is a directory or catalog of thousands of places on the Internet. If you're very new to the Internet and have general questions or need help with some of the jargon, you might want to tap into the World Wide Web FAQ (FAQ stands for "Frequently Asked Questions").
Assignment:
Begin by clicking on Yahoo, then follow an interest of yours. You will find yourself branching off and interested by many different sites as you surf. In fact, your original topic may change somewhere along the way. Don't worry about keeping track, just go with the flow and ride the wave. When you find a site that you find valuable, you can either write down the URL or if you are at a machine where it's okay, go ahead and add it to the bookmarks. If we've lost you on this talk of "bookmarks," why don't you try an Introduction to Netscape.
