What's on the Horizon?

Taming the Internet
While everyone complains about the overwhelming amount of "stuff" on the Internet; actually getting a handle on organizing it--or whether we really want to organize it--is another matter! There are still only a few sites that have attempted to use traditional cataloging as a means of organizing sites. Other methods of organizaton include metadata, self organizing maps, and so on. Cataloged Sites
In an effort to tame the Internet, several websites have attempted to organize and catalog Internet sites. Here are some examples below.

Blue Web'n. We've organized our favorite internet applications by subject and application type. Each entry includes multiple keywords for controlled searching including Dewey Decimal call numbers.

Cyberstacks. CyberStacks(sm) is a centralized, integrated, and unified collection of significant World Wide Web (WWW) and other Internet resources categorized using the Library of Congress classification scheme.

BUBL LINK. Internet sites on LINK are catalogued and can be accessed through the Search option. Catalogue fields include title, author, subject, abstract and class number. Resources are catalogued using the Dewey Decimal Classification.

New Athenaeum Metaguide of Internet Resource Guides provides Dewey Decimal access to various internet indices and guides produced by libraries.
