Introduction
In addition to using books and magazines to find out about Civil War, why not also use the power of the Internet? The links below will get you started.
The Internet Resources
Library of Congress
- Use the search box in the upper right hand corner. Type in 'civil war'.
Civil War Maps
- Library of Congress collection of reconaissance, coastal, sketch, and theater-of-war maps. Includes troop movements and fortifications.
Civil War Photographs
- The Library of Congress's searchable database of thousands of Civil War photos.
Civil War Soldiers and Sailors
- A web site designed by the National Park System, this site allows you to search by soldier name, battle, even cemeteries!
The War for States' Rights
- This site has a distinctly Southern point of view, as you'll see when you read the opening paragraphs. However, it contains excellent information on these topics: prisons, medical care, espionage, soldier's life, and many more.
