Variety of Math Activities

• AAA Math Practice - First Grade - The AAA Math site offers practice in these skills: comparing quantities, numbers and counting to twenty, counting down, numbers to 100, comparing numbers, ordering numbers, place value, counting by 2s, 5s and 10s, ordinal numbers, fractions, adding numbers, subtracting numbers, rounding numbers, Roman numerals, time, patterns and sequences. The variety of activities is amazing. The site is child friendly and doesn't contain any advertisements. Great for repeated and focused practice.

• Primary Games for First Grade - Math - These are Java games and take a little time to load, but not too long. There's addition, subtraction, shapes, time, patterns, money, fractions, odd and even numbers, ordinal numbers and math stories. Very neat games - simple and easy - but some of the advertisements can be distracting and tempting so the students would need to be instructed what they were and to not click on them.

• FunBrain - First Grade - Addition, Subtraction, Number Sentence Completion, Measurement, Comparison and Reading Numbers are some of the skills kids can practice on this site. FunBrain offers many games, but the pop-ups tend to get in the way of the learning.

• Groovy Mathematics - Lists 165 sites for math games and activities and shows a checklist of skills such as: counting, time, shapes, patterns and sequencing, adding, subtracting, more/less and place value.

A Few Math Activities

• Gamequarium Jr. - Gamequarium Jr. offers games dealing with numbers, time, shapes and money. The music is a little distracting and the practice skills are basic. It needs Shockwave and takes a little time to load, but if simple practice is what you are looking for, the graphics and clarity of the games make the skills very easy to understand.

• Count Hoots - The Little Animals Activity Centre - Count Hoot from the Little Animals Activity Centre is a great place to practice math facts in addition and subtraction. There is a picture representation as well as a number model. It needs Shockwave, but doesn't take a long time to load. It's a British site.

• Number Time - This British site offers 5 games which need Shockwave. The games give practice in number identification, doubles, counting to 20, positional language, hundreds chart, addition and subtraction. The games are simple and feedback is immediate.

Flash Cards

• Flashcards for Kids - Flashcards for Kids can be individualized for complexity and number size. The problems can be displayed vertically or horizontally with or without a timer. This is a great site for repeated practice of math facts.

• Mad Minute - Another great site to simply practice math facts. Number of problems and range can be limited. Immediate feedback and no graphics to distract the learner.

Money

• Learn to Count Money - A good site for repeated practice with counting money. There is also an online worksheet with practice at counting coins and completing word problems in a grocery store, but the worksheet is a one time deal.
