Introduction
Teachers: In this unit on the human body, students learn about the structure and function of the circulatory, nervous, respiratory, digestive, and skeletal systems. Learners will work through vocabulary studies related to each system. They will also complete questioning 'worksheets' that encourage students to research a variety of web site resources for information that will assist in their knowledge quest. Students will then use their writing skills with informational and illustrated essays about each system they have researched. Once the background work is completed, students will add their knowledge to researching health related issues by selecting a topic and developing a plan to address their particular health-related issue.
Students: The first link is 'BrainPop,' a site with lots of videos, quizzes, and activities to support the learning of the human body and its elements. Each additional link below represents a 'chapter' in your unit of study for the human body. You will need to create a folder for Science-Human Body. Within your Human Body folder, create four folders; Vocabulary, Assignments, Essays, and Health. Then as you complete the activities save your work and any corresponding material in the appropriate folder.
Now, let's get to work!!
A. Click on the links listed below to complete the assignments. The first assignment will be a vocabulary study. As you add vocabulary from each 'chapter,' save the document. You can create two (2) assignments with each short vocabulary list. At the web site listed at the Puzzlemaker link, you can select 'wordsearch' and follow the directions to create a seek-and-find puzzle to print, complete, and turn in to your teacher. Then, revisit the puzzlemaker site to select 'criss-cross' and following the directions create a crossword puzzle to print, complete and turn into your teacher. Make sure you personalize each puzzle with your name.
B. The second assignment will be to use the corresponding links to research information according to questions created by your teacher. Please follow the directions for completing the questions.
C. The third assignment is a writing activity. Again, please follow the directions for completing this assignment.
D. The fourth assignment will be to select a health-related topic, complete a thorough research, and develop a brochure or multi-media presentation covering your research. With this presentation, convince your audience of how to better take of themselves, or help loved ones take better care of themselves, and prevent some health-related challenges.
