This list of Leisure, Hospitality & Tourism Internet sites has been compiled by David Raines for Tourism students studying with at the University of Lincoln. ATLAS - The European Association for Tourism and Leisure Education (ATLAS) was established in 1991 to develop transnational initiatives in tourism and leisure. Recently designated as a 'European Thematic Network' for the tourism and leisure subject areas by DGXXII of the European Commission, ATLAS provides a forum to promote staff and student exchange, transnational research and to facilitate curriculum and professional development. Worldwide Hospitality and Tourism Trends Forum (WHATT) - The WHATT is an online database for hospitality and tourism academics, practitioners, researchers and students. World Tourism Organisation. - The WTO website URL leads directly to their information centre. The centre contains information on their Publications, Statistics Service, Members and Other Services. Pacific Asia Travel Association. - Founded in Hawaii in 1951, the Pacific Asia Travel Association, better known as PATA, is a not-for-profit travel industry association which promotes the Pacific Asia area's travel and tourism destinations, products, services and the interests of its members through; networking, marketing, promotion & sales and destination Promotion. PATA also serves as a central resource for information and research, travel industry education and training and quality product development with sensitivity for culture, heritage and environment. International Federation for Information Technology and Tourism. - The International Federation of Information Technology and Tourism (IFITT) aims at the promotion of the international discussion about information technologies in the field of tourism. Information and communication systems forming a global network are having a profound influence on the tourism and leisure industry. Reservation systems, distributed multi-media systems, mobile working places and electronics markets are notable results of this development. Advances in the use and development of tools, technologies and methodologies that have facilitated the efficient networking of information systems in the tourism industry and their economic and organisational impacts are to be discussed within the federation. The Department of National Heritage (Culture, Media and Sport). - The Department for Culture, Media and Sport is the central UK Government Department responsible for Government policy on the arts, sport and recreation, the National Lottery, libraries, museums and galleries, export licensing of cultural goods, broadcasting, film, press freedom and regulation, the built heritage, the royal estate and tourism. It also has responsibility for royal parks and palaces through two executive agencies, Royal Parks, and the Historic Royal Palaces Agency, and for the Government Art Collection. Office for National Statistics (ONS) - The Office for National Statistics (ONS) is a Government Agency created in April 1996 by the merger of Central Statistical Office and the Office of Population Censuses and Surveys. Sports Tourism International Council - The Sports Tourism International Council is a professional association for people involved in sports tourism. Its objectives include establishing a research unit and developing a database for sports tourism reserach. Although the website includes some information about these activities there is no link to the database. Seaside Tourism - The problems - The University of Lincoln is one of the partners involved in a European funded research project looking into the reasons why some seaside resorts are suffering from declining numbers of holidaymakers. The transnational project, which is halfway through its two-year term, aims to explore current trends in tourism on the North Sea coast, including East Yorkshire and Lincolnshire, to identify the factors which might be causing a downturn in the tourist trade.[http://www.seasidetourism.org]

International Trade Administration (ITA) Tourism Industries - The ITA's Tourism Office provides statistical information relating to US visitor arrivals and departures, tourism export news and assistance, market analysis, tourism policy, an online catalogue of current and archived information, as well as a number of links to other tourism websites. Leisure Information Network (LIN) - The LIN is supported by the Ontario (Canada) government. Their goal is to provide a focus and infrastructure for the collection, dissemination and exchange of information among leisure service professionals. International Association of Convention and Visitor Bureaus - The association's website contains information that allows users to identify and contact convention and vbisitors bureaux throughout the world. World Leisure & Recreation Association (WLRA) - This international organization is dedicated to discovering and fostering those conditions that best permit leisure to serve as a force for human growth, development and well-being. Members of the WLRA represent interests in tourism, recreation and parks services, the arts and culture, sport and exercise, childrens play, theme parks and entertainment centres. Organization of American States (OAS) Inter-Sectoral Unit for Tourism - In 1996, the OAS created the unit that is responsible for matters directly related to tourism and its development in the hemisphere. Among other objectives, they support the formulation of tourism policy and sustainable development, conduct reasearch and analyses of tourism issues, and promote co-operation with international, regional and sub-regional tourism organisations. World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC) - This URL is the homepage of the WTTC, the global business leaders forum for travel and tourism. It's members include chief executive officers from all sectors of the industry. Travelring - Travelring started out as a Webring, which is part of Geocities and Yahoo!, and it is now the most active travel webring, linking over 1100 travel related sites, containing thousands of pages of travel information. Natural Resources Research Information Pages (NIRRPS) - NIRRPS is an Internet resource guide for outdoor recreation researchers, practitioners and students interested in the field of natural resources. The guide provides several general catalogues and search engines as well as natural resource databases. Association of National Tourist Offices (ANTOR) UK - ANTOR UK has a membership of over ninety national and regional tourist offices, whose tourism officials represent nations worldwide. The Association is a voluntary non-political organization whose aim is to facilitate travel outbound form the UK. Consumer Culture Research Site - This site provides a resource for scholars and others interested in the study of consumer culture and related topics such as leisure and critical investigations of everyday life. It provides multidisciplinary coverage of resources and communications links for scholars and the website is a reserach node providing a consumer culture bibliography, course outlines, researchers and contacts, and resources and many other useful links. ISI Web of Science - This is a bibliographical database listing journal articles in the science, social sciences, arts and humanities. This service is not full text. It is also a citation index which means you can see which articles have cited a particular author or journal article in their list of references. This is a useful way of expanding your research. NB: This service requires a username and password. If you are a member of the University of Lincolnshire and Humberside then you need to sign a copyright form (available from any Learning Support help desk) then you will be issued with the username and password. Bids IBSS. - This service provides access to the International Bibliography of the Social Sciences, a database provided by the British Library of Political Sciences. This bibliographic database lists journal articles and books in economics, sociology, politics and anthropology. NB: This service requires a username and password. The Scout Report. - The Scout Report is the flagship publication of the Internet Scout Project. Published every Friday both on the web and by email, it provides a fast, convenient way to stay informed of valuable resources on the Internet. The team of professional librarians and subject matter experts select, research, and annotate each resource. Published continuously for over three years, the Scout Report is one of the Internet's oldest and most respected publications. Organizations are encouraged to link to this page from their own Web pages, or to receive the HTML version of the Report each week via email for local posting at their site. The Internet Scout Project is located in the Department of Computer Sciences at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and is funded by a grant from the National Science Foundation. SOSIG (Social Science Information Gateway). - The SOSIG Internet Catalogue is an online catalogue of high quality Internet resources. It offers users the chance to read descriptions of resources available over the Internet and to access those resources directly. The Catalogue points to thousands of resources, and each one has been selected and described by a librarian or academic, making this the Internet equivalent of an academic research library for the social sciences. The SOSIG Internet Catalogue describes and links to thousands of networked resources, including: electronic journals, digitised books, reports and papers, scholarly mailing lists and archives, educational software, bibliographic databases, electronic newsletters, datasets, home pages of key social science organisations and bibliographies. Travel law - This is a commercial site for people who work in the American travel industry, especially travel agents and those seeking to become travel agents. It has a list of frequently asked questions (FAQs) about United States travel law. StarUK - This is the official website of the tourism research liaison group of the United Kingdom. The group is comprised of representatives of the national tourist boards of Britain, England, Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland and the Department for Culture, Media and Sport. EU Internet Roadmap for Tourism - The European Commission has set up an Internet Roadmap web site containing information on various EU programmes, schemes, funds, initiatives and actions of interest to the tourism sector and establishing Internet links to the homepages of the relevant programmes. The objective of this new Internet guide is to make available to actors in the tourism sector and to other interested people, a comprehensive and structured overview of the opportunities the Community offers to help the development of sustainable tourism. The Internet Roadmap presents Community schemes classified into specific fields of interest - such as training and support for employment creation, business support and co-operation, co-operation be tween regions, cultural events supporting tourism, or research and technological development, and includes examples of tourism-related actions that have been implemented under each programme. The Internet Roadmap also presents programme descriptions, target groups and requirements, budget allocations, and grant rates in a summary format, and lists the relevant programme homepages.
