Introduction
The following are resources to help students, teachers and parents with reading and language arts instruction. The links include interactive websites, strategies and articles aimed at improving reading and language.

The Internet Resources

Webquest

Number of the Stars Webquest - Webquest that I imagine accompanying class trade book. We have mentioned this book several times in class and I really like the idea of using it to supplement History education and I think this webquest would prove to be an interactive assignment to accompany the book.

Literacy Games

Alphabet and Sound Games - Free online resource with games to help students with alphabet and sound recognition.
Games - My sister was playing this the other night and says she plays it all the time at school. So I checked it out, and found great learning games and also a teacher page to help identify which games would be beneficial for your students. I think this would be beneficial for struggling students as well as those who have completed their assignments and who are looking for something else productive to do.
Literacy Games - Literacy games for kids and also information for teachers to help them, shows reading activities for both pre and post reading. I imagine using this site to help create pre and post reading lessons and also to provide supplemental instructions for my struggling readers.

Resources and Activities

Book Publishing - This is a great resource to help publish your students work. A friend of mine is a teacher and used this company to publish her students work and they loved it. I imagine doing something similar with a future class of mine.
Free motivating reading website - Makes lists of books for students to read by taking into account their interests and reading levels. I imagine using this to help parents identify books to have their children read. The site also has great links for teachers with many links on popular books, award winning books and other suggestions to engage readers
Penpals - I have always thought it would be a great activity to have students improve their writing skills by communicating online with other students and this website provides a way to do that with children from around the world.
Sight Words - Provides sight words from the Dolch List according to grade level and also has interactive games and puzzles with the sight words. I imagine using this to make sure my students are familiar with the suggested sight words for their grade.

Articles

Families Part in Reading - Highlights the importance of involving families to increase a student’s reading abilities and offers suggestions and the importance of doing so.
Reading Articles - Informative articles for teaching effective techniques on reading. The website has many articles highlighting instruction and strategies as well as other helpful links for lessons and author and book suggestions to help motivate readers and help those who are struggling or who have learning disabilities. I imagine using the first year teacher link and the advice offered by other teachers.
