Here are two watercolor / pen and ink paintings that Father Jerome Tupa did on site before painting the large oil painting of San José. On average, Father Tupa painted or drew about nine works per site using watercolors, pen, and ink. Upon returning to his studio at Saint John's Abbey and University, with spirit and energy renewed, Father Tupa began work on the twenty-one oil paintings. He completed the project eight months later in the spring of 1998.
