Paragraph formatting

You can change the format of a paragraph using toolbar buttons. For example, you can create a bulleted or numbered list, indent, or change alignment. The pull-down menu shows special HTML formats (normal, heading 1 to heading 6, etc.).

Here is the Paragraph properties toolbar (if you don't see the toolbar, use the Options -> Show menu to display it):

Experiment with paragraph formatting:

Step

Action

Result

1 Select (hilight)
Courses Taught
What format is assigned to this paragraph? What happens when you change it to Heading 2?
2 Click within a word and click the center button.

Can you return it to left alignment? What happens when you indent?

3

In the "Background" section, use your Enter/Return key to put each sentence on its own line.

Your section should look like this:

Where were you born?

Where have you lived and travelled?

What kinds of work have you done?

Notice the space between each paragraph.

4 Select the 3 sentences and click the bullet list button.

Your section should look like this:

  • Where were you born?
  • Where have you lived and travelled?
  • What kinds of work have you done?
Notice the spaces are gone and the list is indented..
5 Place your cursor between 2 words in a different section. Select
Insert -> New Line Break
from the menu.
This inserts a line break without the space. Note that both lines are considered part of the same paragraph, so if you apply a paragraph format to one line, the other will format as well.
